Lesson 2.8Editing a live listing
Six fields put a live listing back in the queue. Everything else changes silently. And a rejected product needs something specific to come back.

Six fields re-enter moderation
Editing a live product can quietly return it to the review queue, which takes it off the shop floor until somebody looks at it again. Exactly six fields do this:
- Title
- Description
- Cover image
- Images
- Category
- Tags
Everything else does not. You can change the price, the stock, the weight, whether it needs shipping, whether stock is tracked, and the canonical category slug, and the listing stays live throughout.
Why this matters both ways
The useful half: you can restock and reprice all day without your listing disappearing. Change prices during a live show without fear.
The half to be careful about: fixing a typo in your title takes the listing down until it is approved again. If you are about to go live, fix your copy the day before rather than ten minutes before.
The gap this leaves
Worth naming rather than glossing over. Because price and category slug do not re-enter moderation, a listing can be approved with innocuous content and then repointed to a different category or a very different price without any further review. Helm is aware of the shape of this; it is a known consequence of keeping restocking friction free.
If a listing is rejected
A rejection sets moderation to rejected and pushes the product back to draft. Here is the part that is genuinely counterintuitive, and nothing in the product tells you:
Pressing publish again does not fix it. Publish only sets the status back to active. The moderation flag stays rejected, so the listing remains invisible, and you can sit there refreshing a product you believe is live.
The only thing that puts a rejected product back in the queue is editing one of those six content fields. Change the title, the description, the images, the category or the tags, and it returns to pending and gets looked at again.
Rejected, then republished, is still rejected. Rejected, then edited, is pending again.
What to actually do
- Read the rejection reason if one was left.
- Change the thing that caused it, in one of the six content fields.
- Save. That alone re-queues it.
- Publish if the status went back to draft.
